VarAC Installation and Configuration With VARA HF
In this article, we'll take a quick look at some elements that weren't covered in my VarAC installation video. We're going to cover a few topics such as the receive audio and transmit audio, as well as tips for getting the most out of your Icom 7300. So let's dive in!
VaAC Quick Start Guide
Here's a link to an excellent post. Browse over. My video covers the configuration part of it.
Firstly, let's talk about the audio components.
You'll need to setup the receive audio to the best level. We do this in the operating system sound properties. For Windows go to sound properties.
In Windows 11, click on your speaker icon in the tasjbar and select sound properties. You want to being that up and lok for the microphone, USB Audio CODEC. Increase on decrease the level to get a 12 o'clock audio level in VARA HF receive dial.
Next, let's talk about the Transmit level.
I start out with 25 watts. I know guys are running more or less, but 25 sounds good to me. As I mentioned in the video I have an Elecraft KX2 and I'll try QRP power with it.
I went over adjust power and ALC a tiny bit in the video below, but also in more detail in a previous post. See Icom 7300 Easy Transmitter Settings For Digital Operation.
PRESET For the Icom 7300
I have a nice PRESET for my Icom 7300 which you can use. Here are the screen captures from my IC-7300. The last screen is the <<WRITE>> funtion. So after making your changes, write it to the PRESET.

When I change bands, the program automatically switches the Icom 7300 filter to the #2 filter, Any way to prevent this from happening?
It’s good to hear from you and thank you for commenting. That’s great question. I thought it may be fixed in an update, but what I ended up doing was to make my FIL2 3.0K wide. I have to check mine again because it’s been a awhile since I last used it. 73!
