MacLoggerDX Fldigi AutoLog Script with PTT App.

If you have used MacloggerDX with Fldigi you may have run into trouble and needed some help. One issue is Fldigi automatically logging to MacloggerDX and the other issue is getting Fldigi to key the transmitter (PTT). How is it done? Below I’ll show you three steps to accomplish this. We will be using scripts in MacLoggerDX “Extras” folder.

MacLoggerDX

MacLoggerDX (MLDX) is an excellent logging program for the macOS and it is one of the best I have found for chasing DX. If you already have it installed you are 1/4 of the way there. It’s easy to install and you can find the link here. This is a paid program, but well worth it if you are a Mac user.

See more about setting up MLDX here: Icom 7300 MacLoggerDX Setup

Fldigi

Fldigi is well known and widely used for digital modes. It’s great for PSK, RTTY and other ham radio digital modes. If you have this installed you are halfway there. It’s easy to install and you can find the link here. This is a free program. Download the 64-bit version if you have a newer Mac with Intel CPU. Note: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard is the last release that a 32-bit Intel Mac can run, Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and up are, by default, 64-bit.

MacLoggerDX UDP broadcast to Fldigi

Part 1 UDP Broadcasting and Connecting Fldigi to MacLoggerDX - Before we go any further let’s get this going. In MLDX you want to enable UDP broadcast.Open MLDX and go to Preferences. Go to the Station tab and select UDP Broadcast.

Fldigi Logging - MacLoggerDX

Open FLdigi and click on Configure in the menu and then click on Config Dialog. On the left click Logging and then click MacLogger. Check the boxes for “Connect to MacLogger”, “Capture Radio Report” and “Capture Lookup.

This takes care of the initial set up for both programs.

Fldigi logs QSO to MacLoggerDX

Part 2 Autolog Fldigi to MacLoggerDX - Here is where it gets a little tricky for new Mac users. We need to use some separate instructions that you will find in the MLDX Extras folder. I will go over all of it in the three part video below.

Fldigi PTT

Part 3 Get PTT working in Fldigi - There are a few ways to accomplish this. I’ll show a neat script and we will make an app out of it. It’s not that hard and I have found it works well. The script is in the Extras folder. I have good instructions in the video below.

Another good way I have found to get PTT is to use another cable. I use a CI-V cable. These are inexpensive and it’s probably the easiest way to set this up. Look here.
