Ham Radio Deluxe Panadapter
Ham Radio Deluxe Panadapter
It was designed to work with compatible radios - ICOM IC-7300, IC-7610, IC-9700, and the Kenwood TS-890S.
Major issues:
- I get white flashes in the Panadapter.
- It crashes periodically and when it crashes, HRD Connect (rig control) closes.
- The Panadapter freezes up, a lot.
I look forward to their maintenance release. I like Ham Radio Deluxe, the logbook and DM780.
UPDATE 11/17/2019: The maintenance release is out.
Ham Radio Deluxe Panadapter Setup
- Use the USB cable for HRD connect. The CI-V USB baud rate (different from CI-V Baud Rate) in your Icom radio needs to be set to 115200. See my screen captures for the Icom 7300 and 7610.
- Have the Spectrum Scope displayed on the radio before opening the HRD Panadapter.
- To open the Panadapters in HRD go to Tools in the menu. You'll see the Panadapters, Main and Sub.
I will probably have a video out showing the Panadapter when they get it fixed and there is some documentation on it.
Thank you
Coming up: Digital Master 780 and RTTY FSK. It's working!

Ham Radio Deluxe v6.7.0.244 Released - ! NEW FEATURE ! Ham Radio Deluxe Panadapter Display is released in its initial phase. It was designed to work with compatible radios - ICOM IC-7300, IC-7610, IC-9700, and the Kenwood TS-890S.
For the Icom 7610 I am using a computer monitor with a DVI connection.
First of all, I want to thank you for all the great videos you’ve provided in the past.
I’ve set my 7610 to the settings you recommended for the Panadapter operation. First of all, I don’t see any activity on the Panadapter display. Secondly and more importantly now I’m unable to transmit either by pressing the Tune button on WSJT-X FT8 or the 7610 front panel Transmit button.
I need to go back to the original IC-7610 settings for FT8.

Hi Jack,
If you changed the settings in the 7610 from the menu. Just double check them with the screen captures I have online.
Nothing for the panadapter would interfere with the transmit button on the rig. You should see the TX indicator in the LCD turn on when pushing the transmit button.
Read over it again, the 7610 spectrum scope needs to be showing for the panadapter to work. The baud rate needs to be 115200 also.

Hi Rich,
As far as the HRD Panadaptor is concerned, no worries, mate. She’ll be right. They’re good at fixing what’s wrong, Just give them some time to work it out.

Hi Al,
Thanks for commenting here. Yes, I don’t think it’ll be too hard to fix. It looks like they are imitating the Spectrum Display in DXLab Suite. If they can get it to scroll when in fixed mode, that would be fantastic. (When the range is Fixed, the Frequency AutoTrack option is enabled, and you QSY out of the current range but still within the current band, Commander will automatically slide the range up or down so that the transceiver’s frequency (receive frequency if split) will be visible in the new range.)

Hi Rich I just stumbled across your article as I am less than impressed on the Panadapter with HRD and the 7610 . I purchased HRD in 2017 and soon stopped using it as I found it would not work as a Remote solution, but then Black Friday came around and by the time Cyber Monday kicked in I wanted to see this Panadapter function. Well I did see it then it disappeared then it came back then it stuck. Needless to say i’m even more unimpressed with HRD than I originally was at the expense of a few more dollars.
Hi Danny,
Thank you for commenting here and you sound exactly like me. I was disappointed about the remote and that’s one of the reasons I purchased it Initially.
I hope they get the panadapter working better.
We’ll see. Thanks again for coming I appreciate the input and I know I’m not alone.
73 and good DX!
What do I need to use the panadapter in HRD? Do they need to work on it that much??
Hello,
Thank you for commenting here and great question.
All you need it the USB cable and the baud rate set to 115200.
The last time I checked it was still unusable IMO.
GL and best 73!
Just discovered this article. I’m using HRD with 2 monitors (DM-780 in one by itself) and in the rig control window I have the panadaptor running continuously. I find it useful in determining adjacent signals even as it is. It has a bit of latency but nominally useful. I’m not clear on what the panadaptor “sub” function is though
Hi Dave,
It’s nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting here. I was just trying the pan adapter out again to see if it had been updated. The one with HRD is small and slow for me, but maybe I am being too critical.
I haven’t tried out the sub, but I believe that’s the sub VFO. So you could have one for the main and one for the sub VFO simultaneously??
Let me know how that works. I’m interested in how people are using this. I’m getting ready to do an update on an HRD post I have here.
Thanks again, best wishes and good DX.
