The Road Home From QuartzFest
Mobile Station
My station while traveling and on the move is the Icom 7000 and I did get the antenna working on the rear bumper. It is a TarHeel 200A and I was having trouble because it was so close to the camper. It was an easy fix. I just adjusted the length of the coil at the base and got it to work on 40m and 80m. For a while I was just using a hustler antenna mounted on the roof and it worked perfectly well. You can see the video on my portable station.
White Sands Missile Range
One stop on the way was at the White Sands Missile Museum. This was on a Sunday so I only got to see the outside, but it was pretty impressive. Some of you veterans may know these pictures.
Oliver Lee State Park
By far my best stop over was in Alamogordo, NM. I stayed there a few days because there was snow in the forecast in the direction I was heading. I stayed at the Oliver Lee State Park and it was wonderful. We didn’t get very much snow and there was some rain, but overall it was a very enjoyable stay and I really enjoyed the desert there.
