The Elecraft K3S at the Home QTH
The Elecraft K3 Upgraded to a K3S
In 2018, the factory completed necessary repairs and made modifications to the radio. The enhancements included DSP, KIO3BUPKT, KXV3B and KSYN3A as well as a NeoGrip addition to the main tuning knob. It's an impressive transceiver.
Now this transceiver has advanced DSP filtering capabilities and much more.
The KIO3BUPKT adds USB Sound and Com port capability. Also includes the standard KIO3 Analog and digital I/O.
The KXV3B option includes:
- Receive-only Antenna Port
- Intermediate Frequency (IF) Output and Input for Transverter connections
- New for the B version: Adds 2nd preamp for 12,10,6 M
KSYN3A: The Elecraft KSYN3A synthesizer upgrade for the K3 makes a dramatic improvement in local oscillator phase noise, resulting in improved receiver dynamic range and reduced
transmit spurious output near the operating frequency. Read more about this here.

I also just added a K3 to the lineup. I compared the close in dynamic range against my 7610 during this past weekends CQ WW SSB contest. The K3 is far superior. I heard weaker stations up next to the big guns on the K3 that were buried on the 7610. I also noticed that spatter on the 7610 is very annoying and harsh in the headset. I would never have noticed the differences if I had not been comparing them during a contest. Both great rigs though.
Hi John,
It’s nice to hear from you and thank you for commenting. I should have tried that during the contest. I think you nailed it. The K3 is an excellent contest and expedition radio. You won’t find the 7610 out in the field too often. Thank you again and I’ll make a note of your comment.
Best 73!
