WinKeyer3 and Ham Radio Deluxe DM780 Settings For CW
Yes the WinKeyer3 will work beautifully with Ham Radio Deluxe Digital Master 780 and the settings are very easy. To upgrade your WinKeyer2 to WinKeyer3 see my previous post, Upgrade Winkeyer 2 to Winkeyer 3. Winkeyer3 will also send RTTY FSK! More on that to come.
Winkeyer3 Cables
You can purchase the cables for WinKeyer USB from K1EL or maybe you have them laying around in a junk drawer as I did.
- USB Cable, A to B
- Keying Cable, RCA to radio keying plug (CW)
A paddle will plug right into the the Winkeyer.
Ham Radio Deluxe Digital Master (DM780) Settings
Set the rear CW jack on the radio to Straight Key!
- Start DM780.
- Go to Program Options>Soundcard.
- Set the Input (Receive) device to your soundcard (USB Audio CODEC for Icom 7300 and Icom 7610).
- Set the Output (Transmit) device your soundcard (USB Audio CODEC for Icom 7300 and Icom 7610).
- Select PTT. Check via Ham Radio Deluxe.
- Select Modes+IDs (see the video below).
- Select “CW (WinKey)” mode.
- Set the port for WinKeyer and click “Connect”.

Update 9/3/2019: Winkeyer3 RTTY FSK - I made a couple of cables for the Icom 7300 and Icom 7610 and RTTY FSK is working. Steve, K1EL was a great help.

I have been trying wk3 (surface mount) w/hrd and k3 – no luck. Get
” winkeyer not connected “. Latest bin file installed. Unable to get menu prompt from hrd. Works FB with N1MM. Good response from wk setup on com2.

In DM780 under Options>Modes+IDs see that you don’t have anything enabled in the CW tab. It could cause a conflict.

First of all thank you for your YouTube video – very enlightening, all the videos.
The issue I’m having is DM-780 drops PTT prior to a macro being completed through WinKeyer. The solution I came up with is to add 10 spaces between the last character to be sent and the command <stop>. I also notice that the strike through goes through a macro faster than that the WinKeyer activates the key (bottom window.) I’ve played around with various speeds and the issue exists at each speed.
Interestingly enough, I note that PSK, Olivia and RTTY all finish sending their macro prior to PTT being released.
I’m wondering if there is a mismatch between WinKeyer and DM-780.
Very Puzzling. Have you seen this?

I have had timing issues with HRD and DM 780 in the past. Not that I remember with Winkeyer though.
