JS8Call and MacLoggerDX Part I

If you tried JS8Call a long time ago and didn't like it, try this latest version because it's much better. See what Turbo mode is all about! Getting MacLoggerDX and JS8Call v2.1 working together was fairly easy. I have a fresh install of macOS Sierra on my 2011 iMac, so below you'll see how it is done from the start. I have a long video below that is broken up in sections for ease of navigation.

js8call main windowJS8Call will work on Windows, Linux and the popular Raspberry Pi3.

iMac

My iMac is a 2011 model with a 21.5 inch screen and I’ve had it a few years. It’s a nice one, didn’t cost much and it’s fun to use. I upgraded the memory and HD to a SSD. I’ve seen guys picking up 2008 Mac Pro laptops for around $100 and using them. So if you’re interested this could be a inexpensive alternative for you.

MacLoggerDX

MacLoggerDX cost $95, but if you’re a DX chaser and use a macOS it’s a great logging program. Support is top-notch too. I misplaced my registration for it and emailed Don. He got back to me within 15 or 30 minutes with my registration number. Now that’s great service.

More on MLDX in the next post.

jS8Call

JS8Call is a relatively new digital mode and it is based on FT8. There are a lot of similarities with WSJT-X, but the biggest difference is being able to send longer messages. It seems to be pretty popular with the QRP crowd. The decoding is excellent and it doesn’t take very much power.

Configuring JS8Call in standalone mode (without MLDX) is a breeze. See the video below.

Thanks for the JS8CALL Video on YT. I started using it a couple days ago with my Ft991a. I am new to digital but found JS8CALL easy to install and configure after watching a couple videos. Now I watching videos to learn as much as I can.

Just wanted to give you a quick thanks. I refuse to join Google so I couldn’t leave a message on YT for you.
